Susan farber, MFTSusan Farber, M.A., MFT, is a licensed Marriage, Family Therapist and sports psychotherapist in private practice. She provides services to athletes of all ages and skill level to help them achieve the Winning Edge both in their sport and life.

Susan began her education at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she earned a B.A. degree in psychology in 1989. She then attended Antioch University where she graduated in 1993 with an M.A. in Clinical Psychology. Susan became a licensed Marriage Family Therapist in 2002 and soon developed a specialty in sport psychology due to her experience as a competitive cyclist and advanced educational training. A disabling bicycle accident in 2001 resulted in a personal understanding of the mental blocks impeding the physical and emotional recovery process. She learned to overcome her fear of re-injury and successfully returned to competitive cycling a year later.

Susan‘s expertise in cognitive / behavioral therapy adds a deeper dimension to sport psychology strategies such as visualization and guided imagery. By helping athletes discover their core beliefs, they learn to figuratively “clean house,” keeping only those beliefs that will enable them to achieve the Winning Edge.

Susan has lectured on peak performance, stress management, and sport related head injury to both professional and athletic groups. She has contributed articles to Santa Barbara Fitness Magazine and Self Growth.com. Additionally, she is a member of the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table, the Association of Applied Sport Psychology and California Association of Marriage, Family Therapists.
